Training Details
Are you looking for continuing education credits while transforming how you approach Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)? Do you want to provide more culturally responsive and affirming care to your clients?
Join Kimberly Parker for an interactive training that challenges traditional CBT frameworks and equips you with the tools to integrate cultural humility into your practice.
What You'll Gain
This training will provide a comprehensive and practical approach to integrating cultural responsiveness into CBT. Participants will:
- Examine the Five Forces of Counseling: Explore how therapy has evolved and why a culturally attuned lens is necessary for effective care.
- Review Core CBT Concepts: Recap essential CBT principles and discuss where traditional models fall short for diverse clients.
- Consider Cultural Factors in CBT Assessments: Learn how to assess clients through a culturally responsive framework that honors lived experiences.
- Apply Culturally Responsive CBT Strategies: Adapt CBT techniques to align with clients’ values, identities, and unique experiences.
- Explore the Foundations of Decolonizing Therapy: Introduce concepts that challenge Eurocentric therapy models and move toward more liberatory and inclusive healing practices.
Why This Training Matters
Traditional CBT was developed from a Eurocentric perspective, often failing to recognize the impact of culture, identity, systemic oppression, and historical trauma on clients' mental health. Therapists who don’t integrate cultural humility into their practice risk perpetuating harm, contributing to early therapy dropouts, or reinforcing client disengagement.
By reimagining CBT, we move away from rigid, one-size-fits-all models and instead create a dynamic, client-centered approach that fosters safety, trust, and true healing.
This Training is Designed For:
- Licensed mental health professionals (LPCs, LMFTs, LCSWs, psychologists, etc.)
- Psychiatric nurse practitioners and medical professionals offering mental health support
- Counselors-in-training and provisionally licensed clinicians
- Anyone looking to practice CBT in a way that prioritizes cultural responsiveness and social justice
